Fake application which threatens to spread malware and data security more and more happening. Latest, cyber criminals trap Android users in Japan and Korea with fake Vertu application, which turned out to serve as a “thief” incoming message.
Quoted from Softpedia, fake Vertu application that hides a piece of malware called Android / Smsilence.C. According to Irfan Asrar of McAfee, malware can do some dangerous tasks, including intercepting SMS messages and other information, as well as installing spy software on the device that has been infected.
When the application has been installed, the Trojan will register the number of smartphone users with an external server and put an internet filter to ensure all incoming messages successfully stolen. While theft is ongoing, smartphone users will notice that the screen is loading, but in the end an error message that tells the user that the application services are not available.
Although Smssilence.C considered not too sophisticated, but it managed to infect approximately 50 thousand to 60 thousand devices. Applications fake Vertu not only used to spread threats cyber criminals.
After analyzing command and control server, security experts noticed that cyber criminals have uploaded approximately 20 fraudulent applications to Google Play.
